Should I take fish oil or flax seed oil to boost my ';good'; cholesterol level?

I get enough exercise but my doctor says I need to most by ';good'; cholesterol level. She suggests fish oil. Other articles suggest flax seed oil. maybe I should take both.Should I take fish oil or flax seed oil to boost my ';good'; cholesterol level?
The most efficient way to get into your system the Omega 3 fatty acids(EPA and DHA) is from an animal source, that is fish oil, not from a vegetable source, flaxsseds.

Flaxseeds has Alpha Linolenic Acid, ALA, which is a precursor of EPA and DHA, the ultimate acids our body use. In order to do that, the body employs enzymes that convert ALA to EPA and DHA. Some people lack these enzymes and do not make the conversion.

Besides, even normal people only get about 10% rate of conversion from ALA to EPA and DHA. In other words, even if you make the conversion from ALA it may be difficult to get proper dosage of EPA and DHA to get most of the benefits of omega 3. On top of all that, studies link flaxseeds to increase rates of prostate cancer.

Most of the omega 3 fish oil you find today in the general market is produced by a process called molecular distillation. The consumer information written on theses supplements indicate that they are safe to take.

For example, ConsumerLab.com found no detectable levels of mercury (less than 1.5 parts per billion) in more than 40 fish oil products analyzed. Consumer Reports also recently tested several popular brands and found that none contained significant levels of mercury, dioxins or PCBs. All that confirms the benefit of fish oil supplements. For more information you can visit http://www.consumerlab.com/results/omega鈥?/a>

These good news of the benefit of fish oil supplements are important for those taking high therapeutic doses to treat neurological disorders, such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and depression.

Distillation processes used by most manufacturers to remove contaminants may also explain the lack of heavy metals and other toxins.

Fish oil is typically healthier and more pure, but it can be horrible to swallow. Flax is great too. Ideally, you want to get these fats from the actual food, but if you can't the pill will do too.
