Giving rabbits oil seed for a good coat?

my 4-H advisor said it was safe. So i bought some and i gave some to my rabbits but a few of them are having soft stool issues. It's ok to give oil seed to rabbits right?Giving rabbits oil seed for a good coat?
If you are talking about Black Oiled Sunflower seeds, yes. 1 teaspoon max per day. But would advise shiny pellets which have all the nutrition needed. We only gave B.O.S.Seeds 1x per week. for mini lop, american tan, polish (breeds). Rabbits have very sensitive digestive tracts. If you see a change from firm round droppings to runny soft stool, then eliminate the causative feed. Some rabbits can eat the sunflower seeds, and some cannot. Don't give too many.Giving rabbits oil seed for a good coat?
Also, sunflower shells can cause a blocked gut, which will kill the rabbit. Seeds are not very advisable. It does not happen too often, but has been seen on necropsied animals at our vets. Report Abuse

NO!!! Anything that is going to give a rabbit stool problems, is bad idea...how is that going to help coat?

Adding oil to food is not the way to better coat...that is an old breeder myth.

Feeding proper diet, clean environment, plenty of exercise: does your rabbit spend its life in a cage? How can it be at its best if it is locked up...needs movement to develop nice muscles, good bones.

Does your rabbit get plenty of good quality mixed grass hays? Variety of articles written on diet, and health can be found in here, along with some fun things about rabbits/no need to sign in, just read and learn, and soon you will know more about rabbits than your adviser, I guarantee it.(It will be kind of fun to be smarter than they are...but watch it, no one likes getting one-upped by kids! :)))
