Are canola oil and flax seed oil the same thing?

If this is true, why do we pay so much for flax seed oil supplements? Wouldn't foods fried in Cannola oil be just as good for you?Are canola oil and flax seed oil the same thing?
Canola oil is made from rapeseed. It's highly processed, and it's a product from Canada, hence named ';canola.'; It is high in omega 3 and omega 6. Canola oil was the result of research to find another use for rapeseed other than for cattle feed. It's nutritional content and relatively cheap price made it a natural for the marketplace. Canola oil is not as rich in omega 3 as Flaxseed oil.





Almost all vegetable oils that you can buy in the supermarket are deodorized and bleached, as well as being highly processed. This is done to extend the shelf life (prevent rancidity) and to be conducive to foods using oils to have a consistent taste. Most vegetable oils on the market are blends of various types of oil, such as soybean, palm and even cotton seed with safflower and/or sunflower.





You can buy cold pressed oils in natural food stores. Most have a nutty flavor, such as sunflower oil, and peanut oil. Safflower oil tends to have a buttery/nutty flavor. There are also all sorts of other oils as well. Cold processed rapeseed oil is not available.





Flax seed oil is considered more of a nutritional supplement rather than a cooking oil, because of it's high omega three content. Some people also like that it tends to help keep your peristolic system working. It's expensive to press, and it goes rancid quickly. Some people like to add flax seeds to their dishes for both the omega 3 and the colon cleansing effect. Flax is also the plant that is used to make linen. Flax oil has long been up there with castor oil as a hold your nose when you were a kid in the 1900's. It's been around for a long time.





It's accepted that omega 3 is a really good thing to put into your body, however, omega 3 that comes from fish is generally thought to accomplish the best benefits for a person. Fish oil is more easily absorbed than plant based omega 3.





Frying foods in canola oil likely isn't going to transfer the benefits. Some say that the high temperatures destroy the omega 3's. However, that said, you could benefit from a salad dressing made with Canola oil I suppose.

Canola is a made-up word, from the words ';Canada'; and ';oil';. It's a genetically engineered plant developed in Canada from the Rapeseed Plant, which is part of the mustard family of plants. Rapeseed oil is poisonous to living things, it's an industrial lubricant, not a food.





Flax seed oil is from the flax plant. It's packed with phytochemicals and advocated for it's cancer-prevention benefits.
Canola oil is actually a vegetable oil, which provides you primarily with monounsaturated fats. Flax seed oil provides you with omega-3's, which is a type of polyunsaturated fat. Omega-3 fatty-acids are essential, meaning that you must obtain them from food since your body does not provide you with them. Seeing that we cannot supply ourself with these fatty-acids, this is why they are more expensive....and much better for you as well.
NO! Canola oil is made with heat. it is a form of trans fat! Flax seed oil is cold pressed.The are NOT the same thing.
